Kollimalai

Kollimalai is a mountain range located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. It’s part of the Eastern Ghats, a discontinuous range of mountains along India’s eastern coast. Kollimalai is known for its scenic beauty, lush greenery, and several temples situated in and around the area. It’s a popular destination for trekkers and nature enthusiasts, offering breathtaking views and serene landscapes. Additionally, the region is famous for its medicinal herbs and spices, which are found abundantly in the forests surrounding the mountain range. The region surrounding Kollimalai has been inhabited since ancient times. Archaeological evidence suggests that human habitation in the area dates back to prehistoric periods. Various megalithic sites, rock paintings, and other artifacts have been discovered in and around the hills, indicating early human presence.

Kollimalai is home to several ancient temples and religious sites that have been centers of worship for centuries. These temples, dedicated to various Hindu deities, are believed to have been built and expanded over many generations. The Arappaleeswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the prominent temples in the region and attracts devotees from far and wide. The Kollimalai region has been influenced by various dynasties and rulers throughout history. The Chola, Pandya, and Vijayanagara dynasties, among others, have left their mark on the culture, architecture, and traditions of the area. Temples and inscriptions from these periods provide glimpses into the historical significance of the region.

In more recent times, the Kollimalai hills have witnessed development and infrastructure projects aimed at improving accessibility and promoting tourism while also striving to preserve the natural environment and cultural heritage of the area.
